Why I Use iPhone: It's The Ecosystem

People think iPhone is expensive and buy it for status. But once you live inside the Apple Ecosystem, you realise it's not about the phone. It's about what the phone connects you to.

So yeah, people think iPhone is expensive and buy it for the status. Fair enough. But me? I use mine for the convenience.

See, since I was a kid in primary school watching MTV and seeing those "information superhighway" commercials, I dreamed of having a certain setup in my house. This was mid-nineties. The internet was a mystery to most people where I grew up. Thank God I wasn't like everyone else. But anyway, I digress...

The iPhone is not just an illusion of prestige. It's a tool that genuinely improves my quality of life. And it all clicks when you add the rest of the Apple Ecosystem into the mix.

An ecosystem is just different systems working together. For me that's my Apple TV, HomePod Mini speakers, iPad, MacBook, Apple Watch, AirPods, and iPhone. And they all talk to each other.

My Apple TV streams everything. Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney Plus, Hulu, Apple TV... all of it. But the magic is I can control it from my phone, laptop, or iPad. Even my watch sometimes.

What I save on my laptop shows up on my iPad and phone automatically. That's convenient. I'm sitting in the living room watching something and my wife wants to sleep? I put on my AirPods and the sound switches over seamlessly.

Right now I'm typing this on my MacBook keyboard but it's showing up directly on my iPad. One mouse, one keyboard, two devices. No extra apps or equipment needed. It just works.

Want karaoke night? Mute the vocals on Apple Music, use your phone as a microphone, and the sound comes out of the TV speakers. The interconnection of all these devices and how they complement each other is honestly amazing.

Your Apple Watch tracks your movement and logs it to the Health app. The Health app on Apple TV connects you to trainers so you can workout in front of the TV. Need to do a video call? Your phone or iPad becomes a webcam and microphone. There are so many uses I haven't even covered.

But the most important feature, especially here in Zambia? Find My iPhone.

I've lost my iPhone twice. The first time it fell out of my pocket in a friend's car and they went to a club. I opened Find My iPhone on my iPad and could literally see it at the club. They brought it back the next day.

The second time I left it at a client site. I tracked it to the exact room it was in.

The funniest one was when I sent my car to the wash and the guy there took my AirPods. When the car came back I couldn't find them anywhere. Consulted the all-mighty wizard of Find My iPhone and it told me they were at the car wash. I went there and... let's just say some things are better left censored.

We're going to start a series on getting the most out of your devices. They're not just phones and cameras. These are your personal assistants.
